Habitat Creation
At the end of the 20th century this site was a salt pan with a tidal flap that controlled tidal exchange. In 2004, the tidal flap was removed to create a single open-breach connection to the tidal waters of the Solent.
To dissipate tidal water over the northernmost part of the site drainage creeks were dug and historic creeks & several mini scrapes were excavated.
Vegetation monitoring has been undertaken at this site. It seaward section, which is regularly inundated section of the site has become Atlantic Salt meadow.
There is a relatively long channel connecting the site through a marsh to a mobile coarse sediment barrier. This limits the amount of tidal exchange but also this dynamic barrier occasionally closes the tidal connection and need to be re-opened.
