Project Description Summary

In 2004 there was an initial removal of steel mesh gabions (two deep) along the whole of the shingle beach.

Removal of a concrete drain which culverted the streams under the beach and out to sea.

Initially, this produced a 2ha lake/ley, which attracted considerable attention from birds and local birdwatchers, providing an attractive addition to the landscape and habitats of the area.

This lasted until March 2007 when the shingle bar was breached after heavy storms and high tides, emptying the entire ley. (hence, not a managed breach in the strictest sense).
